WPAS Updates: News from the Washington Protection and Advocacy System Fall 2003 Contents:
WPAS is Moving!New Office in Seattle will help WPAS' Advocacyby Phil Jordan and Robin Wakefield October 3, 2003 For several years, the office of the Washington Protection & Advocacy System has been located in Edmonds. In early November, WPAS will be moving the location of our office to downtown Seattle. For people who call WPAS on our "800" numbers, nothing will change. You can always contact WPAS at 1-800-562-2702 voice or 1-800-905-0209 tty. These numbers will not change when we move. The move to Seattle will benefit both our employees and the people who ask WPAS for information or assistance. It will be easy to take a bus to our new downtown office, which will be a nice change! Anyone who has tried to get to the WPAS office in Edmonds by bus knows that it was very difficult to reach us. The new office will be located on the 8th floor of a building on the corner of 5th and Jackson. The building is near the International District, Union Station and Pioneer Square. Here is a link to a photograph of the building (some computers may not be able to view this image): Site of new offices of WPAS Our new address will be: 315 Fifth Ave. South, Suite 850, Seattle WA 98104 Beginning in November, this address will be listed on our website, along with phone numbers, fax numbers, tty numbers, and directions to our office by car and by bus. Remember, our "800" numbers will not change! You can always contact us at 1-800-562-2702 voice or 1-800-905-0209 tty.

WPAS has Re-Designed its Websiteby Robin Wakefield October 3, 2003 Over the summer, WPAS worked with a website consultant who helped us re-design our website. The old site was very plain-looking and the newly designed site has a more attractive look to it. But the change to the website goes beyond “looks.” The site has been changed to make it easier to find the information you are looking for. The new website can be found at the same address as the old one, http://www.wpas-rights.org . For people who have saved links to pages other than the WPAS home page, they may have to update that link with a new one. For example if you had a link to the old Envoy On-Line page, the actual “URL” – or web address - has changed slightly. It is now located at http://www.wpas-rights.org/Envoy_Online.htm . It is now easier to move around within the website. You can get to the main pages by using buttons on the left side of the page. There are also buttons or links at the top and bottom of every page that will help you find what you need. Perhaps the biggest change is the new “search” feature in the website. By clicking on the “Search” button, you can type in a word or phrase that describes what you are looking for, and almost immediately you will see all the pages within the website that contain that word or phrase (the old version of the website had a search engine also, but it didn’t work very well. Our new “search” feature is a big improvement.). To learn more about the new look and feel visit the Site Information page or the Site Map. The WPAS website was constructed with the web accessibility guidelines in mind. These guidelines can be found at: http://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/ . These are guidelines that web developers follow to enable people with disabilities or people with older computers to be able to use their website. Following these guidelines ensures that nearly anyone and everyone can visit the website. ●
